Dirk’s venture to Tampa was galvanized by family

Coach Koetter has a close relationship with his family, and that family atmosphere transfers over to his coaching. He finds a similar passion and love in teaching his players, as he would in teaching his children to ride a bicycle or roller skate, and this shows in how the players respond to him, and his approach, to coaching.

“As all of Dirk Koetter’s childhood memories came flooding back, his eyes misted over at One Buc Place. In their Pocatello, Idaho home, Koetter’s parents watched the event unfold across the screen and matched him, tear for tear.”

“I wasn’t emotional until I saw Dirk standing in front of that room,’’ said 78-year-old Jim Koetter, who will celebrate 60 years of marriage April 10. “We are so very proud. For Barbara and I, this day is pretty humbling. We’ve reached for the tissues quite a bit … tears of joy.’’ – Reported by Ira Kaufman
