Fox Sports: proposed offseason to-do-list.

Tampa has done a lot already this offseason and will have a lot more to do. The Buccaneers started their changes quickly. They fired HC Lovie Smith, promoted OC Dirk Koetter to HC, then the Bucs released the defensive coaching staff, and hired new ones starting with the hiring of former Falcons HC Mike Smith, as defensive coordinator. But, it doesn’t stop there. Added to these changes, will be some player moves and those moves could be big. Fox Sports came up with their idea of an itinerary, and it makes perfect sense, even if some of it is going to be difficult for a lot of fans to swallow.

The first thing on this proposed list Tampa needs to do is one thing I agree with 100%, putting the Franchise tag on Doug Martin. The Buccaneers have a couple of running backs that can produce, but Doug Martin is the heart and soul of that group, placing the franchise tag on him would be a way to keep him, and not have to worry about facing him.

“The talented running back regained the form that saw him take the league by storm during his rookie year. Coming off back-to-back injury-filled and subpar seasons, Martin rushed for 1,402 yards with six touchdowns in 2015. And while that’s all well and good, the Buccaneers have a problem because his contract is expiring. Which means, of course, he’ll be looking to cash in with a big-money contract. Negotiations are under way, but there’s a good chance a deal won’t be reached because NFL teams don’t like to break the bank at such a vulnerable position. So that leaves two options: Let Martin walk, which would be a disaster, or use the franchise tag on him. The Bucs should do the latter. Martin will still pull decent money, and that will give Tampa Bay some time to work out a better deal for the franchise.” – Reported by Sid Saraf
