Michael Bennett wants more money, but Seahawks don’t have it to give.

Michael Bennett, once again, expresses his dissatisfaction towards his contract. Last year he expressed the same, and the Seahawks told him no. Deciding against holding out on the ‘Hawks, Bennett played the 2015 season had a fantastic season and went to the Pro Bowl. But now that he’s proven again that he is well worth paying for, if the ‘Hawks won’t pay, he very well may not play.

In 2014, Michael Bennett signed a 4 year, $32 million contract, and back then that was below the average market rate for pass rushers, that has since changed as the market has exploded. Malik Jackson nor Olivier Vernon have ever been to a Pro Bowl and they both signed ridiculous contracts exceeding $80 million for five seasons. And the messed up thing is, both of those contracts have guaranteed money that exceeds the overall value of Bennett’s contract. Neither of these players is as good as Michael Bennett.

Bennett skipped OTAs again and could sit out of training camp as well. With the Seahawks sitting on less than $10 million in cap space, there is not much to work with financially to appease Bennett’s demands. The situation in Seattle could become dire for the Seahawks and considering he is coming up on his contract year in 2017, he could hold out in ’16 and ’17 while shopping for a new home.

Michael Bennett more than deserves  a fat pay raise, but the fact the Seahawks can’t pay him right now, or at least be willing to write a raincheck, Bennett could be “outta of there.”
