Rookie Safety Ryan Smith has been the Buccaneers primary kick return this season has been temporarily moved from the safety position to the cornerback position to fill a hole left by the suspended “Hey” Jude. Smith’s position change will mainly play a role as a contingency plan in case someone gets hurt. Although he has not taken a snap this season, Buccaneers DC Mike Smith believes he is athletic enough to handle the position. Smith has watched the rookie Safety progress in practice and believes that Smith will be a good player given the opportunity
The move to train Smith in multiple positions gives added depth to the Buccaneers secondary especially heading into the final four-game stretch of the season.
