Reports came out back in December that Mike Smith was the top candidate for head coach of the Jaguars and that trend continued until Monday when the new rumor emerged that the Jaguars would be hiring former interim coach Doug Marrone. The rumors were certainly true as the Jaguars indeed hired Marrone on as their new head coach.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had interviewed six total guys for the head coach job, Tom Caughlin, Mike Smith, Harold Goodwin, Josh McDaniels, Kyle Shanahan, and Dave Marrone. Although Mike Smith was rumored to be the top candidate for the job, he ended up being their second choice.

Other moves made by the Jaguars were the hiring of Tom Caughlin as executive vice president of football operations and they have extended general manager Dave Caldwell’s contract. All three of their new hires are now under contract for the next three seasons.
