Mr. Perfect in practice.

Roberto Aguayo was “Lights out” according to Head Coach Dirk Koetter. In what is seen as the best day of training camp Aguayo has ever had, he was Mr. Perfect going seven of seven today and some of those kicks were from long distance on skinny goal posts.

Again, Aguayo has out kicked the competition as folk continued to miss some easy and some harder kicks clearly falling behind the former FSU legman.

Friday was easily the hottest day of camp for the second-year kicker, but it wasn’t just his hot streak in making kicks, it was really hot and humid out there today. It seems the heat isn’t bothering Aguayo one bit, and that’s a great sign of things to come.

Coming into the new season, Aguayo was feeling a different kind of heat as he is considered one of the worst kickers in the league. That seems to be changing at rapid pace. Bucs GM Jason Licht may have dodged a bullet here, in what many were considering one of the biggest blunders in Buccaneers draft history by moving up in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft to select a kicker. Especially one who was beginning to look like a bust.

Although it is only training camp, Aguayo seems to be settling into his position and beginning to look like the guy everyone believed he was to be. Bringing in a real veteran kicker to compete with Aguayo for the starting job, seems to be exactly what the Doctor ordered.

We all knew Aguayo had to shape up or ship out as tends to be what happens in Tampa, and shaping up is what he is doing. Roberto Aguayo is definitely controlling his own destiny right now.
