“Salute to Service” Buccaneers Style

In honor of the upcoming celebration of Veterans day, Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston and DT Clinton McDonald teamed up with Mission BBQ to feed some displaced veterans from around the Tampa Bay area. Today marks the official observation day for Veteran’s Day with the holiday being tomorrow, November 11th.

It brings me great joy being a veteran myself to see our team taking time out of their busy schedules to recognize the sacrifices these brave men and women have given to our great nation. With approximately 11% of the homeless across the nation being veterans, to see anyone take time to help these brave souls should brighten anyone’s day.

To hear Winston, say, “Its means a lot to me to see these people back on their feet, talking, and smiling.” Its shows true humbleness. I have questioned his leadership ability in a previous article, but this type of off the field activity embodies the qualities a true leader should always show! “I wanna be there to help people have those ups.” This type of leadership will allow him to have many more ups in his future.

McDonald can be quoted as saying, “It’s a blessing for us to have the opportunity to serve them, it might not be the same type of service, but it’s an honor to show them they are not forgotten.”

The Buccaneers organization should hold its head high for allowing these players the time to serve these individuals. During the leagues “Salute to Service” weekend there will be multiple Ceremonies and speeches across the league, it’s nice to see the NFL not forget about those who defend the freedoms afforded to this great nation, allowing for the NFL and all other sporting events to have their opportunities to entertain the nation we all so proudly call home.

Remember, if you come across a veteran to thank them for their service, no matter what your political views may be, always remember that without their bravery and sacrifice you may not have the freedom to have those views, GOD BLESS THE U.S.A. and AS ALWAYS GO BUCS!
