Buccaneers rookie WR Chris Godwin has been named NFC offensive player of the week. Last Sunday against the Saints, Godwin grabbed 7 passes for 111 yards, also catching the winning touchdown on a Jameis Winston pass in the end zone.

The Bucs took Godwin in the 3’rd round out of Penn State in last year’s draft. Almost immediately coaches began to rave about his maturity and his ability on the field. At 6’1 and 210 pounds, Godwin is a big target with excellent strength. At last year’s NFL Combine, he did 19 reps of 225 while running a 4.42 forty yard dash to go with a 36 inch vertical. In college, he was a strong WR, always fighting off press coverage and running precise routes. This season, for the Bucs, as a 4th receiver, he managed 34 catches for 525 yards, even starting one game for a suspended Mike Evans.

Picking Godwin in the 3rd round was a straight up steal. Another good late round pick from GM Jason Licht, to go with Kendall Beckwith in last year’s draft. Godwin’s future in Tampa is defiantly looking bright and with his talent, the sky is the limit.
