Trumaine Edmunds: The Next Great Tampa Bay Linebacker? – Daniel Beebe

Trumaine Edmunds is a linebacker out of Virginia Tech who will most likely be off the NFL Draft Board within the first ten picks. Edmunds is a genetic freak when it comes to the linebacker position. He is 6’5, weighs 250 lbs., and runs a 4.4- 40 yard dash. Edmunds played for three years at Virginia Tech and tallied 213 tackles, 33 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks.  Will he fall to the Buccaneers at #7?

The Buccaneers need help on the defensive side of the ball. Most believe that Tampa will use their first round pick on the offensive line, but Edmunds may be too good for the Buccaneers to pass up. He would be a perfect fit with LaVonte David and Kwon Alexander. Edmunds will bring strength, quickness, and athleticism to the edge. I believe he can learn how to be a dominant pass rusher from these two Pro-Bowlers. The Buccaneers could also utilize their secret weapon, Derrick Brooks, to help in the progression of Edmunds.  There have been several comparisons to Bears’ Hall of Famer Brian Urlacher. Fans in Tampa will be pleasantly surprised if Edmunds is anywhere close to Brian Urlacher by the end of his career.
