What did the Bucs get in MJ Stewart

Other than Brent Grimes, who is likely playing in his last season, Vernon Hargreaves is the only other DB with starting experience. That’s why with the 21st pick in the second round the Bucs took CB MJ Stewart out of NC.

Stewart started the last 2 seasons for the Tar Heels being named honorable mention ACC both years. In 2015 as a Sophomore, he grabbed 4 Ints and 18 passes defended to go with 62 Tackles and 2.5 TFL. Stewart failed to register an int his next two years, but still had excellent numbers. As a Junior, he had 66 tackles, 2ff and 11 passes defended. Last year, as a Senior, he played well with 45 tackles, 5 TFL, 2 sacks to go, with 12 passed defended.

In Stewart, the Bucs are getting a 5’11” 200lb DB that runs a 4.54 FYD and put up 225lbs 18 times. He is a player that can cover as well as stuff the run, as he is not afraid to hit. Stewart has the potential to be a first year starter that could make a huge diffrence whether its at CB or FS.
