As many may have heard yesterday, the US Supreme Court voted down a previous federal law allowing bars gambling on football, basketball, baseball, and other sports in most states.
This means that most states now have the ability to legalize betting on sports. So what does this mean exactly?
Florida law currently does not allow for any form of sports betting and the ruling will now increase pressure on state lawmakers to update the gaming law. It is interesting for the state of Florida.
The legislature isn’t scheduled to meet again until March 2019, and by then there will be new legislative leaders and a new governor in place.
Only time will tell, but with the Hard Rock near Tampa and even Disney pushing for the amendment to pass before 2019, the sooner the betting is allowed, the better for all major sports including the NFL.
