Brentson Buckner Excited About Tampa Bay’s Defensive Line

Newly acquired Defensive Line coach Brentson Buckner seems to be very excited about his new job opportunity with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. When he was given his new task in February, he had only one high-caliber player to work with, in Pro Bowler Gerald McCoy. Since then, the Buccaneers have been busy adding talent to a very weak Defensive Line, trading for Pro Bowler and Florida native Jason Pierre-Paul and adding Vinny Curry, Beau Allen and Mitch Unrein via free agency. To give Buckner even more weapons to work with, the Buccaneers used their first round pick in this year’s draft on Vita Vea, the best Defensive Tackle available in the 2018 class. Vea is an athletic freak with a huge frame, he should draw double teams on a regular basis.

To express his joy for the team’s effort to address the obvious needs on the Defensive Line, Buckner texted Licht after the acquisitions of Allen and Unrein, “MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME.” When the Bucs nabbed Vinny Curry, Licht received another text from Buckner that said, “LET THE GIFTS KEEP COMING!”. That was even before he knew he would get to work with Pierre-Paul and Vea, as well.

Now Buckner has emphasized that he does not want a Superhero on this team, which McCoy has somewhat resembled for this team since he was drafted in 2010. Buckner needs to have a whole bunch of “Super friends”, instead. According to Buckner, working together and trusting one another is the key to success on the Defensive Line.

Brentson Buckner is clearly fired up and ready to start his tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It will certainly be an exciting 2018 season for Buccaneers fans.
