Ryan Fitzpatrick: One of the better backups in the League

With Tampa Bay’s starting quarterback now being officially suspended for the first three games of the season, the offense will be directed by Ryan Fitzpatrick to start things off. The 35-year old Harvard product will have his work cut out for him as he will face three high-caliber teams in New Orleans, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. All of them made the playoffs last year and the Eagles are the reigning champions. Not an easy task at all for Fitzpatrick.

However, Nate Davis, a writer for USA Today, believes that the Buccaneers are one of the best teams in the league when it comes to compensating the loss of its starting quarterback. In fact, he ranks Tampa Bay at number 6 in the league in that category. See article here

The Buccaneers, already incorporating several new players, will hope to squeeze three games of FitzMagic from veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick to start the 2018 season. With games against the Saints, Eagles and Steelers, Tampa Bay will be severely challenged to overcome the absence of its leader, yet the Bucs are in better to position to weather this storm than most clubs. – via USA Today

When called upon last year, Fitzpatrick did a decent job winning two out of the three games he started due to Winston’s injury-caused absence. It is highly doubtful that the Bucs win two out of the first three games this year with Fitzpatrick under center. Yet, crazier things have happened in sports, WAYYY crazier things.

Indeed, highly experienced Ryan Fitzpatrick seems to be one of the better backup quarterbacks in the NFL. With a defense that is expected to be tremendously improved from last year, things do not look as bad as most people think. If the defense is finally able to step up and keep the Bucs in the game, Fitzmagic might be able to steal one of those very tough three games for Tampa Bay… maybe even two!
