Bucs Make More Roster Moves Before Camp: Waive DE Ward and Sign OL Ugokwe

Today the Buccaneers front office made two moves today by waiving 2nd year pro DE Channing Ward with an NFI designation(Torn Petellar Tendon). Ward joined the Bucs in 2016 as an undrafted rookie, and spent almost the entirety of last season on Tampa Bay’s practice squad. In his lone game last season against the Saints he did not record one stat.

After waiving Ward, the Bucs filled the open roster spot with OT Jerry Ugokwe who spent his rookie year with the Washington Redskins. This move likely adds depth to a position in which J.R. Sweezy was cut earlier last month. This will likely just add more competition during training camp as the coaching staff attempts to figure out the right mix of players to improve their offensive line’s woes from last season.
