M.J. Stewart beginning to look like the real deal?

The rookie corner, out of The University of North Carolina, is starting to show why he was selected prior to Carlton Davis in the second round of this year’s draft. As I’ve said before Stewart will look much better when the pads come on. Stewart notched a sack against Fitzpatrick in yesterday’s (7/28) practice, coming off of the left side of the offensive line.

The young corner, who can also play safety, is beginning to show signs of his potential. As camp goes on, he continues to grow in his fluidity and comfort on the field, adjusting in coverage easily and in his execution of defensive plays. When Stewart was assigned to man to man coverage, he was able to run step for step with any of the receivers.

If Stewart can keep this up and continue to show is versatility on the field, I can see Stewart, one day, becoming as reliable as the Hall of Famer Ronde Barber, once was. Yes I said it! Stewart can become a cornerback – sack machine just like Ronde Barber was whenever he was near the line of scrimmage.
