NFL: Predicting the AFC West

0

Each season, experts try to do their best in predicting things that may happen in the NFL. This starts with predicting the division winners, award winners, playoff teams, and even the eventual Super Bowl Champion. Over the next four weeks, we will do our best to line up each division. Next up is the AFC West.

  1. Oakland Raiders

There is some turmoil in Raider Nation. They are missing one of their best players, Khalil Mack. It also looks as though he may have played his last down in Oakland. In addition, to try to resonate a spark, the Raiders brought back their old head coach, Jon Gruden. That may be a good thing in the future but it will take some time to rekindle that spirit for Gruden. Thus making 2018 a rough one. Record 7-9

  1. Kansas City Chiefs

The main reason the Chiefs fall in 2018 will be the transition at QB. Yes, Patrick Mahomes played well in his debut last season. However, that was against a Denver Broncos team that called it in for the season. It will be tough for the youngster to maintain that over 16 games. Besides, there have already been camp rumblings of his struggles. Record 8-8

  1. Denver Broncos

The Broncos should be a contender in this division. Last year their horrid play was due to the lack of a consistent QB and run game. They have both of those back in 2018. The signing of Case Keenum should elevate the QB play. The drafting of Royce Freeman should bring a consistency to the run game. This should bring the Broncos back towards the top of not only the division but also the conference. Record 10-6

  1. Los Angeles Chargers

This team is primed for a division win. Philip Rivers should lead a strong offense that includes last year’s number one pick, Mike Williams. They have an excellent running game with Melvin Gordon. A major loss on offense will be TE Hunter Henry.

Meanwhile, their defense should be one of the best in the NFL. Their pass rush is intimidating with Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. They added FSU rookie Derwin James to help solidify the secondary. A key loss could be Jason Verrett. Record 11-5

The AFC could see a familiar face at the top. It could also see someone new. No matter who is there in the end, the AFC West could be a major player in the AFC this season.
