HC Dirk Koetter announced today that QB Jameis Winston will start at Atlanta after this week’s bye per a report from ESPN’s Jenna Laine. This comes on the heels of a terrible performance from a Fitzpatrick lead offense who had a total QBR of an abysmal 14.6 in the first half. Winston did fair better with a QBR of 81.4 with 1 TD and 2 INT’s in the second half. It was enough for Koetter to make the change under center.
Koetter had admitted they only brought in Fitzpatrick from the beginning to be a mentor to the young Winston. This solidifies without a doubt that this is Winston’s team and he is not going anywhere anytime soon. Simply put, even though Fitzmagic time was great, it was always going to be short lived.
The Bucs will look to get back on track vs the Falcons, and they hope Winston will provide the right spark to do just that.
