Bucs Should Make Godwin the Permanent No. 2 Receiver

Chris Godwin has proven all season long that he deserves to be given the job as the number 2 wide receiver alongside Mike Evans.

With DeSean Jackson out because of an injury, Godwin started the game against the Carolina Panthers, and he played stunningly well once again. He was most likely the most-hyped player in the offseason this year, and rightfully so. He finished the game with five grabs for a total of 101 yards and made a very tough catch on a high bullet thrown by Jameis Winston for a touchdown.

Godwin, when given a chance, has proven himself over and over again. The former Penn State product now has 49 catches for 676 yards and 5 touchdowns. These numbers should increase as soon as the 22-year old takes the position permanently, which should happen sooner rather than later.

The obvious lack of chemistry between DeSean Jackson and Jameis Winston only solidifies Godwin’s status as the potential future number 2 receiver from here on out. Jackson simply does not seem to be able to get on the same page with Tampa Bay’s franchise quarterback. The front office must seriously consider cutting ties with the speedster Jackson as soon as possible, especially since he does not seem to be happy in Tampa as of late.
