Ian Beckles: “Ronald Jones Sucks!”

In this week’s edition of Ian Beckles’ podcast “In the Trenches,” the former Tampa Bay guard gave his opinion on the current state of the Buccaneers after their loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Beckles predicted a 30-10 loss for the Bucs, but it did not turn out that bad for them. When it came to player criticism, Ronald Jones ended up receiving a very harsh dose from Beckles:

“Who recruited Ronald Jones? Who was it? Somebody please stand forward… who wanted this guy drafted? … If Ronald Jones was in the seventh round standing there I’d say ‘Please don’t draft this kid.’… I’ve watched him in training camp, I’ve watched him in preseason games, I’ve watched him in regular season games. He has one flaw. He can’t catch the football. He’s an undersized running back who doesn’t have very good running back skills. Ronald Jones sucks. Period.” If you would like to listen to Beckles’ full podcast, you can find it HERE.

That is a tough pill to swallow for the rookie out of USC. However, Beckles does have a point. Ronald Jones has been struggling to make even the easiest catches out of the back field, and he averages less than 2 yards per carry on the 23 attempts he has been given so far.

To make matters worse, his abysmal preseason does not make things any easier for Jones as another forgettable game makes his rookie season a complete washout.

While this is just his first year in the league, it is indeed somewhat concerning for a rookie running back to struggle as mightily as Jones when given plenty of opportunities. Hopefully he can turn his career around in 2019. It would undoubtedly help the Bucs to have an explosive young running back at their disposal without spending another early draft pick on the position.
