Bucs 2019 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Coaching Staff To Date

January 9th is a day to remember since the 2019 Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ new head coach Bruce Arians assembled his new staff.
Here’s a rundown on who’s on the coaching staff so far.

Byron Leftwich – Offensive Coordinator

A former quarterback who spent stints on 4 teams including a brief one with the Bucs in 2009, Byron Leftwich worked with Arians in his final year as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals in 2017 as quarterbacks coach and prior as a player in 2008 and 2010-2012. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018.

Harold Goodwin – Run Game Coordinator

Harold Goodwin has been working with Arians since their days with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007. He’s coached the offensive line and was an OC following him to Indianapolis Colts and Arizona.

Clyde Christensen – Quarterbacks

Bucs fans are familiar with Clyde Christensen in his prior stint as quarterbacks coach in 1999 before his promotion to OC in 2001 under Tony Dungy. Christensen served as QB coach for Arians in 2012. Christensen didn’t have to go far since his last stint was with the Miami Dolphins last season.

Joe Gilbert – Offensive Line

Coming from the University of Arizona where he served as the O-line coach as well. He is the replacement for a position that was thought to be originally taken by former Broncos coach Sean Kugler’s. Who during his pro career he had a stint with Arians as Steelers offensive line coach in 2010.

Rick Christophel – Tight Ends

Rick Christophel also comes from Arians’ staff coaching tight ends for the Cardinals in 2013.

Todd McNair– Running Backs

It is shaping that coach Todd McNair will be nabbed as the running backs coach for Tampa Bay per Scott Reynolds of Pewter Report

Both Arians and McNair have quite the history together. McNair played for Arians while he was the HC at Temple, and played for him again with the Chiefs when he was drafted in 1989.

Kevin Garver – Wide Receivers

According to a report by Josh Weinfuss of ESPN  that Garver is being nabbed for the wide receivers coach position. Garver worked under Bruce Arians as an offensive assistant coach and assistant wide receivers coach in 2017 with the Cardinals. In 2018, during Arians short retirement, he served as the wide receivers coach in Arizona.

Antwaan Randle El  – Offensive Assistant

Randle El who was a formal NFL player for the Steelers, worked as the Athletic Director for Virginia Academy before joining Arians staff.

John Van Dam  – Offensive Quality Control

Before joining Tampa Bay’s staff, Van Dam was the Offensive Coordinator and QB coach for Lafayette (Pa.) College last season. 

Todd Bowles – Defensive Coordinator

Todd Bowles worked with Arians’ during their time at the Cleveland Browns with Arians as OC and Bowles as a secondary coach in 2001. They reunited in 2013 when Arians hired him to be his DC. He returns to help Arians be his DC with the Bucs after his stint as HC with the New York Jets.

Kacy Rodgers – Defensive Line

This will be the first time at the pro level Kacy Rodgers will be working with Arians as he was a holdover from Bowles staff as his DC. Note: Rodgers was interviewed for a senior defensive coach position with the Giants on 1/10. Update per a report from Scott Reynolds Pewter Report, Rodgers will be joining the Bucs coaching staff despite the Giants efforts to pull him away.

Mike Caldwell – Linebackers (Inside)

Mike Caldwell joined Arians’ staff as linebackers coach for the Cardinals in 2013. He left for the Jets to join Bowles becoming an assistant HC and coaching inside linebackers.

 

Larry Foote – Linebackers (Outside)

Coach Foote, as most of his staff, has a storied past with Arians. He played for Arians when he was in Pittsburgh. After his playing career he served under him as the assistant linebackers coach in 2015 and linebackers coach from 2016-2018 with the Arizona Cardinals

Nick Rapone – Defensive Backs (Safeties)

Nick Rapone joined Arians’ staff in Arizona in 2013 as defensive backs coach. He left to coach at Delaware in 2018. He’s tentative to join with his current status on the Orlando Apollos of the AAF.

Kevin Ross – Cornerbacks

Kevin Ross was part of Arians’ staff at Arizona coaching cornerbacks in 2013 and left in 2017 with Arians’ retirement.

Keith Armstrong – Special Teams Coordinator

Keith Armstrong and Arians’ go back to their Temple days. Armstrong was a graduate assistant when Arians was head coach. Armstrong reunites with Arians coaching special teams after his stint from division rival, Atlanta Falcons.

 

Chris Boniol – Specialist Coach:Kicker, Punter, and Long-snapper

It has been reported, via Greg Auman of the Athletic,  that Chris Boniol will be the Special Teams “Specialist” coach. Bonial was a kicker in the NFL from 1994-1999, and kicked for the Cowboys, Eagles, and Bears.

Cody Grimm – Defensive / Special Teams Assistant

A former Buccaneer himself who played safety for Tampa Bay, was the quality control/defense coach at Virginia Tech in 2017. 

Amos Jones – Assistant Special Teams

Jones spent 5 seasons under Bruce Arians as his Special Teams Coordinator with the Cardinals, is now reunited with him as an assistant for Special Teams.

Mike Chiurco – Assistant to the Head Coach

For two seasons Chiurco was the assistant to the head coach in Arizona, before becoming the defensive assistant/assistant defensive backs coach. He will now serve in a similar role as Bruce Arians assistant.
