Dye and the Apollos

Donteea Dye gets a second chance to be the receiver Bucs fans wanted him to be—but not with the Buccaneers.

Dye is now with the Orlando Apollos, starting Wideout in the new Alliance of American Football league.

Dye had few memorable moments while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. One that stands out is during the Rams game when he caught a pass from Winston, taking it inside the 5 where he went down apparently untouched by the CB at the time. Upon getting to his feet he released the ball, which was still live. The ball was recovered by Luke Stocker. Upon further review it turned out Dye had been touched and was marked down around the 5-yard line.

Dye has been the consummate underdog. He was activated from the practice squad on numerous occasions to fill in for Mike Evans and Adam Humphries when Humphries was working through concussion protocol. He certainly has the speed to separate himself from defenders. Perhaps now he will get his chance to shine in Orlando.

The Orlando Apollos kick off the inaugural season of the Alliance of American Football against the Atlanta Legends at Spectrum Stadium in Orlando on February 9, one week after the Super Bowl.
