Player Profile: Brian Burns (Defensive End, Florida State)

0

Defensive End, Junior

6’5”, 231 lbs.

Overview: Brian Burns is considered to be one of the better defensive ends in this year’s draft class. He is expected by most to be drafted in the second round of the 2019 draft and seems to have all the tools to become a starter in the NFL sooner rather than later. Depending on his performance at the combine, he could end up being picked late in the first round. If the Buccaneers plan on targeting him, they should do so with their second-round pick, potentially after trading down a few spots first. Tampa Bay needs to bolster a position that is becoming more and more important in a pass-happy NFL.

Pros: Great, diverse pass rushing and movement skill set, which translates well to the NFL. Excellent footwork and burst. Had an outstanding 2018 season, racking up 10 sacks in a highly competitive ACC Conference.

Cons: Lacks necessary bulk for the NFL. Needs to add weight without losing his athletic ability and his speed. Has to find a way to play faster in order to survive at the next level.
