Final Day For Free Agent Compensatory Signings

Today is the final day the Free Agents signings count towards compensatory picks.

The Buccaneers have a few former players that are still unsigned. Most notably CB Brent Grimes and Safety Chris Conte.

Grimes all but shut down by the end of last season and then went public with why. Grimes took to his wife’s podcast to try and explain why he felt disrespected that the team asked him to cover the other teams best WR.

“I just couldn’t agree with it. It’s just disrespectful. People who follow receivers all the time, unless they’re on a rookie contract or trying to get paid, are usually making $13-15 million a year.” Grimes went on to say, “That’s not right. It’s disrespectful,” Grimes said. “It just f—ed up my whole vibe for the whole year, to be completely honest. It’s just disrespectful. I just felt disrespected.”

Brent, did you feel disrespected when you cashed that check? Needless to say Grimes hasn’t been signed. Can’t imagine why.

Chris Conte’s season ended on primetime television last season with the “stiff-arm heard ’round the world” when Pittsburgh Steelers’ TE Vance McDonald stiif-armed Conte into another realm.

Conte, unlike Grimes seems to have a better chance of being picked up by a team. More likely than not this won’t happen till teams are in training camp and looking to fill a void due to injury or lack of production.

As a result, I don’t see either one of these former Buccaneers being picked up today. Could it happen? Sure, but the chances it does are about as good as seeing Brent Grimes covering a number one receiver or Conte surviving a Vance McDonald stiff-arm.
