“If I die on game day, have a drink. Celebrate.”

According to Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times, head coach Bruce Arians recently sat down with HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel”  that will air next week. On the show, he talked about how his health affects his coaching career. The interview will be worth tuning in to. Some of the responses from Arians were shocking.

Arians is a Different Caliber

During one portion, the two-time AP Coach of the Year talked about how he has never gone a full season in the NFL without a trip to the hospital. That last sentence there has to be a bit unsettling, right?

“Yeah, it might happen again,” Arians told Kremer. “But it won’t be that serious. I won’t miss work.”

Rest assured though, Arians says that at this point in his career where he has maintained his weight better (shedding 25 pounds since the Bucs hire and passing both of his physicals), he believes it won’t be severe.

A Football “Lifer”

The quote that stole the show was Arians’ response to the uncertainty of complications down the road during his tenure with the Buccaneers.

“You can die at any moment doing anything,” Arians responded. “I mean, so why not do what you love to do. If I die on game day, have a drink. Celebrate.”

If this doesn’t make Bucs fans want to buy a Kangol hat and barge down the doors at Ray-Jay on September 8th, I don’t know what will!
