Testaverde Jr. to see significant playing time Thursday?

The Buccaneers have had quite a few injuries during training camp and preseason. From rookies to veterans, no position has gone unscathed.

The Buccaneers appeared to be set at QB with Jameis Winston the starter and Blaine Gabbert as his backup. Then Friday against the Browns Gabbert went down with a separated shoulder and that is a problem.

As a result of Gabbert’s injury the Buccaneers signed rookie QB Vincent Testaverde Jr. Problem solved right? Not so fast. The fourth preseason game is typically for the fringe players. The guys who could literally be delivering your furniture in the next two weeks. Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians typically doesn’t play any starters for the 4th preseason game. Not only that but he doesn’t play the backup QB much either. So just to recap the depth chart heading into Thursday’s game:

QB#1 – Griffin
QB#2 – Testaverde Jr.

That’s not a typo, that’s it!

One would imagine Arians will have to break his pattern of sitting the backup (Griffin) for the final preseason game. That, or signing another QB to fill the void until Gabbert can return. If the Buccaneers decide to stay with what they have we can expect a heavy dose of Testaverde Thursday.
