Barber or Jones?

Bruce Arians and Byron Leftwich are finding any way possible to get the two backs involved in the offense. Both running backs have had flashes of greatness in each of the first two games. Arians has said several times they are a running team and they will continue to establish the run each week. At this point in the season who do you think should be the starter going into week three?

Peyton Barber

As it stands today Barber currently has 31 total carries for 115 yards with 3 receptions and 19 yards. Barber is also the only running back on the roster with a touchdown. Barber seems to be Arians first option at running back leading in both carries and receptions. We will see in week three against the Giants if Barber can rack up another touchdown to claim his title as top running back in Tampa Bay.

Ronald Jones

Jones is second to Barber with 17 carries with 84 yards and also having 1 reception for 18 yards in two games. The second-year pro, Jones isn’t looking for only home runs when he carries the ball. He now knows the importance of just taking what the defense gives you. Jones had a great 18-yard catch for a first down on a 3rd and long against the 49ers. I have full confidence that Jones will not just let Barber take all the glory for himself as the top back. Jones will continue to have Barber look over his shoulder this season.

Winner: Peyton Barber

Barber possesses the skill to be a great pass catcher and a runner. I give Barber the slight edge over Jones because of Barbers ability to be a better pass blocker when Jameis Winston needs extra protection. Barber was very raw talent when he came to Tampa Bay with only having one year as a starter under his belt in college. It took some time but Barber has grown on me over the years with his willingness to get better and staying humble and loyal to his teammates.
