Dr. Fauci: “Football May Not Happen This Year”

The 2020 NFL season is set to begin in just under four months, or is it? The NFL is still moving forward with starting their season on time. The plan as of now is business as usual with all teams playing in their own stadium.

Not So Fast

Dr. Anthony Fauci told Dr. Sanjay Gupta that the NFL may need a “bubble” similar to the plans by the NBA. The NBA plans on playing it’s entire season isolated in Orlando.

Fauci,

“Unless players are essentially in a bubble – insulated from the community and they are tested nearly every day – it would be very hard to see how football is able to be played this fall, if there is a second wave, which is certainly a possibility and which would be complicated by the predictable flu season, football may not happen this year.”

While this isn’t exactly what you’d like to hear, it is a reality. The Covid-19 pandemic has crippled nation’s economies, canceled all live sporting and entertainment events and brought death and sorrow to millions around the world. The unfortunate part of the pandemic is that it’s been politicized which just further added to the already enormous complexities of dealing with this. To be clear, Fauci has no authority to shut down the NFL or any league, but his expertise shouldn’t be ignored.

Now we wait!
