Leftwich: “Very Comfortable” With Bucs Running Back Corp

During Byron Leftwich’s Zoom meeting with the media, he shed some light on the running back situation. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a young group of running backs led by Ronald Jones II. In the meeting, Leftwich also praised Ke’Shawn Vaughn’s speed and playmaking ability.

With the league at somewhat of a standstill, Leftwich is excited to get his young players out on the field and practice with them.

“The tough part is without having the opportunity to get these guys in here. We know what they showed on tape, we can’t wait for the opportunity to get these guys on our practice facility.”

Leftwich also highlighted Tom Brady’s knack for throwing to his running backs. “He feels very comfortable with the backs we have,” Leftwich said. Having a player like Brady could help the running back core immensely.

Backs like Jones and Vaughn will see a lot of field time. However, Leftwich also feels that Dare Ogunbowale will see some time as well. The offensive coordinator was very impressed with the rookie running backs, “fast guys that have made big plays their whole career.”

So it looks like the rumors of the Buccaneers looking to add a running back were just that, rumors.

Although players are still not allowed back to the Buccaneers facility, coaches have been helping their rookies learn the playbook and giving them the proper resources to thrive.
