Bubba Smith, a No.1 overall pick in 1967, played nine seasons in the NFL. After his NFL stint, he turned to acting where he is most recognized for playing the role of Moses Hightower in the Police Academy series. The former defensive end/ actor was found later to be suffering from CTE, at the time of his death. The diagnosis was made by researchers with the Department of veteran affairs, the Concussions Legacy Foundation, and Boston university. He is the 90th ex-NFL player to be diagnosed with CTE in eight years. Smith passed away at the age of 66, in the year 2011, and his death was said to be caused by an overdose of the weight-loss drug Phentermine.
