A lot has changed in a year for Jameis Winston, last season after a 42-14 beat down at the hands of Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans there was talk that the Bucs had made a mistake taking Winston with the number one pick. There is no talk of that now after his week one performance in Atlanta.
According to ESPN, Winston had the second best Quarterback Rating at 90.3, just behind Ben Roethlisberger who was stellar on Monday night in Washington. Winston’s numbers are higher than the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Andrew Luck. Also, speaking of Mariota he struggled against the Vikings and only had a rating of 52.6 on Sunday.
Winston showed that he is a rare talent in his spectacular third quarter as he threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Austin Seferian-Jenkins, a great pass that he lobbed over the defender. After that drive, Winston threw a longer pass to Mike Evans, a pass that traveled 44 yards through the air that gave the Bucs their biggest lead of the game.
The Bucs are in great hands with Winston and with his play so far he is showing great growth in just his second year. If he continues the Bucs may be looking at joining the playoff picture late in the season, something they haven’t experienced in many years.
