John Lynch has been busy since taking the reigns of the San Francisco 49ers and his message is simple, “change the culture.” To make this message a reality the 49ers need guys who fit the system and not just wasted draft picks. Lynch has announced that they will discuss trading the number two pick in the upcoming draft, but if an enticing deal doesn’t happen, they will not be discouraged and take the best possible player available. Lynch isn’t afraid to build through the draft, but would rather trade for positions of need and multiple draft picks.
The team who most notably built through the draft is the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders passed on quarterbacks like Manziel and Bridgewater, early in the draft, and Instead landed Derek Carr in the second round. Carr quickly made a name for himself in the NFL as an up and coming QB and was easily a steal in the second round. The Raiders snagged Khalil Mack fifth overall that same year and the following year landed their star receiver, Amari Cooper.
Lynch could land the defensive stopper from Texas A&M, Myles Garrett. He seems to be about as much of a sure thing as there is when speaking of an NFL athlete. The combine is quickly approaching and it will be interesting to see what Lynch and the 49ers do in the upcoming months.
