Can the Bucs still make the playoffs?

To answer that question, we must examine the defense. Robert Ayers and William Gholston are excellent run stoppers, but do not produce much in terms of a pass rush. Gerald McCoy is an all pro at DT and very quick off the snap, always wreaking havoc on opponents back fields. Chris Baker and Clinton McDonald are excellent rotation players, but in order to stop the run, Baker must step up and become the player we thought we signed as a free agent this off-season from Washington.

Next, our linebackers. We have an excellent trio.. We already know Kwon Alexander and Lavonte David are top players at their position, although both have been banged up all season. Kendall Beckwith has been the pleasant surprise.

Next up, defensive backs. Brent Grimes is still playing well at his age, but Vernon Hargreaves has had difficulty transitioning to the NFL. Finally, safety, probably our weakest position on defense. TJ Ward hasn’t played up to expectations and Chris Conte is average at best. The lone bright spot is Justin Evans.

So back to the question at hand, can the Bucs make the playoffs? Sure it’s possible, anything is possible, but somebody in the secondary has to step up and start making plays. We also must find a way to generate a pass rush. Without that, I’m afraid this season will be lost!
