Let’s Get Back To Winning.

In order to get back to winning football games, the defense will have to begin playing better. They will have to get pressure on the opposing QB, so the secondary can play to expectations. The secondary has given up a high percentage of catches for too many yards this season. Defensive schemes allowing CBs to play soft coverage is hurting us regardless of the D line’s play. Defense has to create turnovers.

The offense needs to start faster and avoid crucial turnovers. We also need to score in the red zone. Kicking woes and missed opportunities has killed us in earlier games. A lot of those stalled out drives can be attributed to play calling. Our offensive line has done a solid job and is likely to produce two Pro Bowl candidates this year.

The run game has to be established early with solid run blocking, and pending mistakes in the passing game, take control of the game in the first half to avoid having to play catch up in the second half. Jameis has to make better decisions with his throws and stop over throwing wide open targets deep down the field.

Sunday’s game is our first division game of the season, and we can win if we can do these three things: Balance the offensive attack, defense playing aggressively by getting pressure on Cam Newton so he makes mistakes that lead to turnovers, and better decision making by our QB.

Still a long road ahead of the Bucs and it’s going to be a tough one to travel. However, it is still early enough for the Buccaneers to right the ship and win the division. It just depends on how badly they want it.
