Really?

As fans, we all know to expect fines for players. We usually call it as soon as we see the cheap shot or crushing, but oh so late hit, knowing within the week we will hear about the fine handed down. Most times we agree. Sometimes it makes for fun conversation around the water cooler.

News has filtered through of a fine for our own Jameis Winston, $12,154, for the vicious and premeditated poke on the back of Marshon Lattimore’s helmet. Yep that poke was worth over twelve grand! REALLY? I wasn’t on the sideline or in Winston’s head when the incident happened. But to fine a player for what can best be described as handbags is, in my opinion, ridiculous.

From my view it looked like Jameis was already pointing to something on the field before Lattimore came over to join the conversation. Was it immature for Winston to poke Marshon’s helmet? Yes it was, but $12,154 worth of immature? No way. I’m certainly not making excuses, but Winston is a young man and a winner; sometimes emotions boil over and frustration can quickly manifest itself into what Jameis did. He didn’t lash out the player or throw a punch, his emotions got the better of him for a fraction of a second. I’d much rather someone with emotion than some robot leading the team
