Raiders will not re-sign Janikowski.

  1. Home
  2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

One of four kickers ever to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft will not be returning to the NFL next year in a Raiders uniform.

The 18 year veteran missed all of last season with a back injury and his stand-in, Girogio Tavecchio, proved to be a sufficient replacement. After Tavecchio’s performance last season the idea of the Raiders not re-signing their veteran kicker doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Although that is not a choice I would make myself.

That being said, now that the Veteran Kicker is available, should Tampa go after him? I say yes and would already be sniffing around. Janikowski already lives in Florida, making Tampa an ideal place for him to finish his career. If Tampa can get Janikowski, I believe that it could be a move that would surely make up for the trading up to draft another Florida State – Lou Garza Award Winner- turned bust in 2016.

When it comes to kickers, and who is the best in NFL history, Jaikowski’s name finds a comfortable home in the top 3 if not at the very top.
