Saints Are 9.5 Point Favorites Against Bucs

Unless you live under a rock, you know that most pundits are not very high on the Buccaneers. With teams like the Browns and Bears projected to have better season records. This sentiment has rolled into week 1 where the Bucs are nearly a 10-point underdog. In fact, the Bucs are the least favored team to win in week 1. Respect is earned in the league, but when looking at this prediction; the word “insulting” comes to mind.

Simply put, the Bucs are a much better team than pundits are willing to give them credit for. Some of them could be rightly skeptical after being so high on a team with playoff aspirations and after much fanfare after a series on HBO’s Hard Knocks. That said, there is reason to believe that this team will be markedly better than last season. Keep in mind Tampa Bay lost four games by 3 points or less, and another two by less than a touchdown. If the ball bounced the other way in those games, then you have an 11 win football team who is in the playoff’s.

The fact of the matter, is that the ball didn’t bounce the other way, and the Bucs were only a 5 win team who couldn’t finish out close games. Whether we like it or not, it has firmly put the Bucs in the underdog column until proven otherwise. This Sunday in New Orleans, though is the first chance to change that narrative.
