Running Game Non-Existent

Last season the Buccaneers running game was abysmal. After returning from suspension, RB Doug Martin ran for just 406 yards and 2.9 yards per carry. The leading rusher for the team was Peyton Barber with 423 yards and 3.9 yards per carry.

With the season Barber had last year, the Bucs were hoping to ride their new RB’s success into 2018. To shore up the running game for the next several seasons, GM Jason Licht took RB Ronald Jones from USC in the 2018 draft. So far things have not worked out.

The running game is not quite what Bucs fans were expecting. Starter Peyton Barber has rushed for only 124 yards with 2.9 yards per carry. Along with Barber’s struggles, Ronald Jones has had problems of his own. After an awful preseason, Jones has been a healthy scratch for all three games this season.

If Barber can’t get going and Jones remains out, Jason Licht has a problem on his hands. He will either have to pull off a trade or sign a free agent because right now the Buccaneers offense is completely one-dimensional.
