Jason Pierre-Paul Is Sacking the 2018 Season

Buccaneers’ defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul currently has 8 sacks on the season, and the season has just arrived at the halfway point. JPP is on pace to do something that Tampa has not seen since Simeon Rice graced the field with his presence, reach the double-digit sack mark.

After many failed attempts to acquire defensive linemen who can either snap out a sack streak or free up veteran lineman Gerald McCoy, who came the closest to double-digit sacks in 2013 with 9.5, the Buccaneers seem to have found their guy in Jason Pierre-Paul.

Noah Spence was the one who we hoped would achieve this feat, and many media members were optimistic that he would have a ‘Vic Beasley’ type of breakout. That hope deteriorated when Spence was injured last season, and, now healthy, he has not seen the field this year.

Jason Perrie-Paul is no stranger to high sack count seasons as he has had a couple of over 10 sack years with the Giants. In JPP’s second season with the Giants, he recorded a whopping 16.5 sacks then followed that up two years later with 12.5 sacks.

On pace now, JPP should break the Buccaneers’ single player double-digit sack drought—probably against the Redskins. If the first half of the season is any indication of what we can expect from JPP, then we could witness a new franchise single-season sack leader. Warren Sapp is the current owner of that honor with 16.5 sacks in a single season.
