In a not so surprising twist, but yet unusual move in the head coaching interview process, the Buccaneers had now Bucs Head Coach Bruce Arians go through a complete physical. When those results came back, he was quite pleased with where his health graded out when he was told he got a ‘C’.
Arians went through many health issues. Such as a kidney cancer scare in 2016, heart issues, and other health related issues that forced him to retire after the 2017 season. So that said, he was more than happy to take a ‘C’. During a radio interview Tuesday with 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station, Arians said,
“They gave me this unbelievable physical,” he said Tuesday. “They said I got a C. That’s like the best news I had in 10 years: I got a C on the physical. Yeah, I mean, Cs were always great for me … you know what I mean?
“When you’ve been an F health-wise for 10 years, a C is great.”
It is an encouraging sign to see the new Bucs Head Coach’s health improving, and he seems to have a plan to stay on that track. One way he is doing so is by limiting as much stress as possible in a naturally stressful position, and he is doing that by delegation. The biggest delegation of all being the handing over of play calling duties to OC Byron Leftwich.
Without a doubt Bruce Arians was the perfect fit for this Tampa Bay squad. If he can keep his health in check, he may have a chance to bring this team back to relevancy.
