This past Friday Bucs Head Coach Bruce Arians gave an update on DE Jason Pierre-Paul’s neck injury during an interview with ESPN. The update did not sound encouraging.

“He’s doing good. His spirits are good,” Arians remarked on Pierre-Paul. “You know, it’s just one of those things, you just wait and wait and wait, and make sure the thing doesn’t displace and not have to have an operation. We got our fingers crossed and are praying for him all the time.”

When asked about a timetable for Pierre-Paul’s return, he replied, “I would think it’s at least five months, maybe six.”

If Pierre-Paul’s recovery took the full six months, it would bring him to week 13 in December of the regular season. Keep in mind this is simply a recovery for his neck. Which doesn’t include time to get the star DE back into football shape. This is all with the caveat that he has no setbacks. Which could easily happen during any point during this time frame.

Arians doesn’t seem to be too optimistic, and neither should the rest of Tampa Bay.
