Buccaneers Trust in Running Back Corp

Head Coach Bruce Arians has come out and said the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do not need a big name running back. They currently have Peyton Barber, Ronald Jones and Andre Ellington heading up the running back group. Arians believe that with this group the Buccaneers can be successful. He came out and said to Ira Kaufman of Joe Bucs Fan, that they don’t need a Todd Gurley or David Johnson. The question was brought up that the Buccaneers shouldn’t overpay at the running back position. This combination has to work for the Buccaneers in order for them to be successful offensively.

The Buccaneers were a passing team a year ago. They need to find a way to add a running game as well. This will do two things. One, it will allow the Buccaneers to have a more balanced attack. Second, it would take the pressure off of Jameis Winston. Who in his 5th year is trying to do something no Buccaneer quarterback has ever gotten, earn a second contract.

At the moment the Buccaneers have many questions on defense. If the defense is not better than in 2018, the Buccaneers will have to score a lot of points. This will put more pressure on every offensive position. On the other hand, if the defense can hold opponents, it will be better. The Buccaneers are good at wide receiver and tight end. They have not had 1,000 rushers for a season since Doug Martin did it 2015 totaling 1,402 yards.

Hopefully with the help of Ellington and Jones Peyton Barber could be the next Buccaneer to have a 1,000 yard rushing season. Ellington is a veteran that should be able to help. The question is Ronald Jones. Jones had an inadequate rookie season. Arians believe that Jones can be a stellar back. We will just have to pin our ears back and hope that the Buccaneers have a good running game to help their offense.
