Carolina Panthers Defensive Tackle Gerald McCoy took to the media today to talk about his exit from the Buccaneers. The responses were not pretty. McCoy hopped on Undisputed to “clear the air” about what really happened during the offseason leading up to his release.
Throughout the interview McCoy repeatedly turned the issue towards respect… Respect for his Pro Bowls. Respect for his number 93. Respect the organization didn’t show him by “picking up the phone and just calling me.”
Yeah, that’s a 30 year old defensive tackle in the NFL talking. How about respect by showing up to camp? Setting an example as a locker room leader? Not having tantrums on social media? There shouldn’t be a double standard here.
The Buccaneers made their decision to release McCoy and he was replaced. It’s a business, it happens. The three quotes below will perfectly sum up how the interview went:
“… I spoke to more people in Baltimore, Cleveland and the Carolina’s staff then I spoke to the Bucs all offseason and that’s a fact.”
“… Whenever I got that phone call, I was going to be ready. Whether it was with the Bucs or someone else.”
“… I’m one of the best players in that organization. Imma’ say it. Usually I wouldn’t, but imma’ say it. So what”
