Buccaneers training camp is in full swing and today was a good day for kicker Cairo Santos. Santos’ leg was in full swing today going 7 for 8 with a long of 53 yards.
Anybody following the Buccaneers recently knows the kicking woes this team has had. The answer? Drafting yet another kicker, this time in the 5th round. Matt Gay, the kicker from the University of Utah with a cannon for a leg seemed poised to lock in his spot on the team during minicamp. Not so fast, Cairo Santos has been near perfect throughout training camp. Gay has also been very good during training camp but not better than Santos. Today the story is about Santos, the veteran kicker seems intent on holding onto his starting position.
Competition always seems to bring the best out in people, so far this training camp it has brought out the best in Santos.
