Ryan Griffin shines in preseason game for Bucs

The Buccaneers fell 30-28 to the Steelers last night in the teams first preseason game under new head coach Bruce Arians. While there were plenty of issues that need to be addressed there were some solid performances.

One such performance was third-string quarterback Ryan Griffin. The journeyman quarterback had a great night completing 26 of 43 passes for 330 yards and one touchdown.

Griffin was an undrafted free agent in 2013 by the New Orleans Saints. The University of Tulane product spent two years on the Saints practice squad. The Bucs claimed him off waivers.

It’s understood that Griffin’s performance was in a preseason game, but completing 60% of his passes for 330 yards with a touchdown is solid regardless. Yes he played well with/against guys who will most likely end up on practice squads if not delivering your pizzas. It’s still a good sign for a team who only has Blaine Gabbert to fall back on if starting quarterback Jameis Winston isn’t available to play.
