It’s finally official, Shaq Barrett will be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer through the 2020 season. The deadline for a contract extension was July 15th at 4:00 pm. With no deal on the table, it means Barrett will sign for roughly $15.8 million in 2020.

Barrett recently filed a grievance to the NFL in order to increase his pay by $2 million. The franchise tag pays players based on the average of the top five players at the position. Technically speaking, Barrett is designated as a linebacker, who are paid less than a defensive end.
If the grievance is passed, Barrett would be granted $17.8 million instead of $15.8 million.
We’ll see if Barrett can agree to a long term deal next offseason, it will certainly be difficult with contract extensions for Chris Godwin and Lavonte David looming.
