Buccaneers Bruce Arians benched running back Ronald Jones during Thursday's game against the Cowboys/via USA

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Bruce Arians squeaked out a victory against the Dallas Cowboys in their season opener. The game remained close due to the Buccaneers four turnovers, including a fumble by running back Ronald Jones. Arians spoke to the media after the game about Jones’ fumble and being benched.

“Ro was running really, really well until the fumble,” Arians told reporters the day after the game. “Then he struggled mentally to get over it.”

Evidently the mental struggle is over for Jones according to Arians per Greg Auman of The Athletic. Mental preparation is a key to successful football, if your head isn’t in it, then you’re a liability. Jones, although referred to as “starter” by Arians needs a bounce back performance this week against Atlanta. If he struggles again, it’s good to know the Buccaneers have Leonard Fournette to lean on.
