What to Watch For: Chicago Bears vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

0

Coming into week 7, the Tampa Buccaneers have sole possession of first place in the NFC South. The team is coming off of their fifth win of the season, taking care of the Philadelphia Eagles 28-22. This week the team will face off against the visiting Chicago Bears who are sitting at 3-3. Let’s take a look at things to watch for this Sunday.

Chris Godwin

Injuries have been an issue all season long for this year’s team, and this week is no different. Wide Receiver Antonio Brown will not be playing in this game as he is dealing with an ankle injury. As is Rob Gronkowski who has been dealing with his broken ribs since week 4. That means there aren’t a lot of viable options for the short-intermediate routes.

Godwin has been having a great year so far as his 34 catches place him in the top ten of the league. The Chicago Bears secondary is led by corners Jaylon Johnson and Kindle Vildor. Johnson will most likely give his physical play to Mike Evans on the outside so that leaves corner Vildor on Godwin. Vildor has not been playing great according to Pro Football Focus, receiving a 53.1 grade.

With wide receiver Tyler Johnson stepping up this week look for Godwin to lead this team in receiving as he should be Tom Brady’s favorite target this Sunday.

Mack Off The Edge

The Chicago Bears star linebacker Khalil Mack is once again playing at a high level as he has six sacks so far in six games. The six sacks put him tied for 6th in the league. He has been a terror off the edge for his whole career and this season is no different.

Right tackle Tristan Wirfs has been a godsend for the Buccaneers since he was drafted before last season and this season is no different. He has yet to allow a sack this season, following a standout year where he allowed only one sack. To Khalil Mack.

Last season when the Buccaneers faced off against the Bears, Mack got the best of Wirfs as he got the quarterback takedown as well as tossing Wirfs with one hand.

I will be expecting a great performance by Wirfs again this week. This game has been circled for the champs, and Tristen since the schedule came out.

Week 7

In the Buccaneers’ quest back to the championship game, they have been getting every teams best shot. This week will be no different as the Bears still have a good defense but have been hindered by an awful offense. If Tampa Bay can keep the Bears from hanging around, the Buccaneers should end the day with their sixth win.

Chris Godwin will look to continue his hot start by stepping up for the offense. If the short game gets going that will help the tackles keep the edge rushers away from Brady. Although Khalil Mack is playing at a high level expect Wirfs to get the upper hand Sunday.
