The history between the Los Angeles Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is extensive to say the least. Starting all the way back in the 1979 NFC conference championship all the way to last year’s divisional round playoff game.
The Rams hold a wide margin in the head to head matchup between the two teams 19-9. Not exactly a good look for the Buccaneers is it?
The Buccaneers signed quarterback Tom Brady in 2020 via free agency to help the Bucs compete for a championship. They did just that winning the Super Bowl in Brady’s first season with the team. So that means the Buccaneers problem with beating the Rams is fixed right? Not so fast! With Brady under center the Buccaneers are 0-3 against the Rams, including the heartbreaking loss in last year’s divisional round.
Brady retired from the game in early February, then returned just 40 days later. The announcement of his return sent shock waves through the league. But what does this have to do with the Rams?
Rams head coach Sean McVay’s reaction to the news of Brady’s return was pure disappointment. “I was thinking, s—, man. Can we get this guy the hell out of this league?” McVay stated when asked about Brady’s un-retirement.

The Buccaneers have done well so far in free agency. They’ve re-signed 10 of their free agents in Chris Godwin, Ryan Jensen, Carlton Davis, Leonard Fournette, Aaron Stinnie, William Gholston, Josh Wells, Breshad Perriman, Giovani Bernard and Zach Triner. The team also added wide receiver Russell Gage and traded for guard Shaq Mason.
There’s still work to do as the Buccaneers have 11 unsigned free agents to make a decision on. That list includes, Rob Gronkowski, Ndamukong Suh, Jason Pierre-Paul, Kevin Minter, Blaine Gabbert, Pat O’Connor, Steve McLendon, Pierre Desir, Richard Sherman, Andrew Adams and Curtis Riley.
Several of these players won’t be able to be brought back, but the Buccaneers hope to at least get Gronkowski and Suh back in the fold. This will be crucial for the team to be able to compete with the likes of McVay’s loaded Rams roster. Speaking of McVay, let’s go back to his “can we get this guy the hell out of this league?”, comment about Brady’s return. Brady responded in true GOAT fashion.

Tom Brady has so many amazing accomplishments in his career, yet he still feels like there’s “Unfinished Business”. There’s no doubt Brady was referring to winning a Super Bowl when making that statement. But you have to believe losing three straight to McVay and the Rams as the Buccaneers quarterback is also “business” he feels is “unfinished”.
