The Tampa Bay Buccaneers look to address several needs on the defensive side of the ball in this mock draft while adding to their offensive depth.
Devonte Wyatt is a rare physical specimen for his size. He is explosive off of the ball and can overpower most typical offensive linemen. Wyatt posted great combine numbers in the 40 (4.77), three-cone (7.45), broad jump (9’3). Very effective on stunts and twists making him hard to control.
Brian Asamoah projects as a weakside inside linebacker. He is a sideline to sideline type backer who thrives in read and reacting. Plays well to the point of attack and in coverage. An excellent tackler who will immediately excel on special teams and push for extended playing time.
Dameon Pierce is an explosive back that breaks tackles regularly. His great balance through contact and his quick twitch downfield makes for big play potential. This balance allows for running between the tackles, his burst gives him the option to bounce outside at any time. A great addition to the Buccaneers backfield who has starter potential.
Lecitus Smith is a bit of a project, but one that could provide great dividends. Smith’s strength is pass protection. His pocket protection is top-notch with his quick feet and ability to to pinch and redirect pass rushers. Where Smith struggles is run blocking, this might be why he dropped to the end of the fourth round. This should be improved with work to his technique and sometimes time in the weight room.
Kalon Barnes is fast, like 4.23 in the 40 yard dash fast. He has the length needed to contest the ball in the air. Has the ability to bait quarterbacks as well as close off deep routes. Barnes does need work on the tackling department, something that would need to be improved if he’s to play above being a special teamer.
Kenderick Duncan plays the game fast and decisively. He has solid ball skill and attacks the ball in air with the best of them. Duncan has great technique and awareness against the run. A thunderous hitter, Duncan can and will hit with intent.
