Buccaneers Don’t Have Timetable for Godwin’s Return

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin recently signed a three-year $60 million contract. This was done despite the fact that Godwin sustained an ACL injury, one that may cost him a portion of the 2022 season.

The question now is, how much of the 2022 season will the Buccaneers be without Godwin? Recently Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles commented on this.

“When he’s ready to go, he’s ready to go. We don’t put a timetable on it,” Bowles stated at Buccaneers minicamp Tuesday. “He’s coming along. Obviously, he’s better than where he was. But, he’s not where he needs to be. He’s coming along – he works hard.”

Bowles isn’t looking to rush Godwin back, that’s obvious as well as smart. The team is definitely better with him in the lineup, that’s not a question. But, with the signing of Russell Gage and the depth behind him the Buccaneers will be fine.

This is not to say the Bucs won’t miss Godwin’s services. Via CBS Sports, Godwin has been one of the best slot receivers in the league since 2019. Since 2019, Godwin has missed nine games but still posted 53 receptions of 20-plus yards as well as 152 receptions. Last season Godwin appeared in 14 games posting 1,103 yards on 98 receptions and five touchdowns.

As mentioned earlier, the Buccaneers still have Mike Evans, Russell Gage, Cyril Grayson, Breshad Perriman and Tyler Johnson To lean on in Godwin’s absence. We all know Evans will do what Evans always does. This means one of the aforementioned receivers will have to step up to fill the void.
